For question #2, what did you do differently from the original post? Please outline, explain and justify what you changed & why. Essentially, what did you learn from this new topic and what did you change and why. (8 Marks)

Regarding question #2, we made several changes from the original post to enhance its effectiveness with F-pattern and plain language writing. We also wanted to increase the KPI of retaining interest and reduce the bounce rate from the post. Here’s a Breakdown of what we changed and why we changed them.

Original post:

The original post contained detailed information presented in paragraph form and didn’t take into consideration plain language writing. It went in-depth and wasn’t easy to digest and understand. This could overwhelm readers and make it challenging to grasp key points quickly. Ultimately, the post made it hard for readers to retain the information.

Revised Post:

The revised post addressed this issue by restructuring the content to present critical information in bullet points, making it more reader-friendly. Bullet points help provide a clear overview of all the benefits we offer from shopping from the rack. This format allows readers to scan through the content quickly, enabling them to identify relevant information and retain interest in the content.

Original post:

Our original post didn’t have images and didn’t fully grasp the reader’s attention. Visuals play a massive role in capturing attention and maintaining engagement, but we didn’t fully recognize the importance of images when we created the post.

Revised Post:

In the revised post, we highlighted the importance of relevant visuals in retaining interest. We selected images strategically that complimented the content and evoked emotions related to thrifted fashion and community engagement. The revised version aims to maintain readers and lower bounce rates as it keeps them engaged. Visuals serve as powerful storytelling tools, captivating visitors’ attention and encouraging them to stay involved with From The Rack.

Original post:

Our original post lacked a distinct tone and personality; we wrote it for F-pattern and didn’t write it for plain language writing. The post felt impersonal and generic to the readers. It efficiently communicated the information about the From The Rack and our offerings. Still, it missed an opportunity to connect with the audience on a deeper, more personal level.

Revised Post:

In the revised post, the language is infused with personality to create a more engaging and relatable tone for our target audience. By incorporating plain language, we infused the text with playful expressions and relatable anecdotes and ensured we resonated with our audience more than the original post. An example of this was instead of stating, “Welcome to From The Rack,” we said, “Welcome to From The Rack, Your new favorite place to buy vintage clothes.” This is a more friendly and enthusiastic tone that sets a welcoming atmosphere and invites the reader to feel like valued member of our community.

Assignment 3 Question 3 https://blog.fromtherackwindsor.com/assignment-3-question-3/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 20:15:31 +0000 https://blog.fromtherackwindsor.com/?p=1389 3. For question #2, please outline in detail how your new post addressed the three main objectives as discussed in class. Please outline in detail for each. (9 Marks)

Our new revised post starts with a bold headline that hooks the reader. It also explains the post by saying, “Your new favourite place to buy vintage clothes.” This concisely explains what the post will be about moving forward, drawing attention to our brand and what we offer. We also included visuals to complement the content on the page; this is following plain language writing. It also enhances the text and is used since visual content is 40 times more likely to be shared on social media than text-based content. Articles that contain images also get 94% more views than just text-based articles.

These images are strategically positioned throughout the post to break up the text and create visual interest, which helps entice visitors to continue reading. Another way we were able to capture attention was through our CTA button; this button says, “Start Shopping Now!”  which stands out at the end of the posts and prompts the readers to act and explore our website further. The use of bold text and a contrasting colour to the background ensures that the button is evident to the reader, encouraging engagement. We also made to speak in a more accessible, forgiving tone to the audience to make them pay more attention to the text; we didn’t want to bore them with droning text.

The post we created provides detailed information about the benefits of shopping at From The Rack, the free stickers we provide with every order, the free shipping of over 50 dollars, personalized playlists, and community engagement opportunities. By highlighting these benefits, we can keep the reader engaged and encourage them to explore further with a CTA button at the bottom of the post. We made sure to add bullet points and lists to follow the F-pattern and make it universally easier for the reader of a broad audience to understand where they need to focus their attention to. It also allows for the visitors to quickly grasp the main advantages of shopping at From The Rack. This format prevents information overload and maintains the reader’s interest. The visuals we chose helped to capture the reader’s attention, but they also helped the reader retain interest. They do this by complementing the text-based content to evoke emotions related to thrifted fashion and community engagement. Showcasing real people enjoying looking through our clothing and participating in community activities will resonate with the visitors and encourage them to stay engaged with the post and brand.

We prompted the visitor to click the “Start Shopping Now!” button. It is a clear prompt for visitors to act and explore the online store. After providing relevant information about the brand, placing the button at the end of the post encourages visitors to convert their interest into action. The post emphasizes incentives such as free stickers, free shipping, and personalized Spotify playlists; this enables the visitors to not only shop but also engage with the brand’s community and offerings in said community. By highlighting these incentives, the post prompts visitors to act and explore our website’s offerings. By inviting visitors to join our email list (The From The Rack community), we are fostering ongoing engagement beyond making a purchase. It also helps for future segmentation later down the line. This also positions the brand as more than just a store but also a community of like-minded individuals; the post encourages visitors to become involved and invested in our brand From The Rack.

Assignment 3 Question 1 https://blog.fromtherackwindsor.com/assignment-3/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 19:44:30 +0000 https://blog.fromtherackwindsor.com/?p=1378 1. We spoke about Plain English writing in class. Please answer the following in detail:

Plain English can be broken down into three main objectives. These objectives are that your writing needs to be clear, concise, and correct. In class discussion, we talked about how plain English is important, it’s how we effectively communicate on the internet. Plain language must be clear so the message you are trying to convey is easily understandable to a wide audience. Plain language is emphasized by using simple, everyday language. An example of this would be, instead of convoluted descriptions, using straightforward terms like “people” instead of “photographers and graphic artists,” using more basic terms makes the content more accessible. With accessibility, plain English prioritizes the reader’s needs by ensuring that the content is easy to find and understand and use. The content needs to be organized so the readers can find what they are looking for without getting confused and frustrated. The reader is number one when it comes to plain language writing so understanding the audience and tailoring the message to their needs is a must. Knowing the literacy levels, language proficiency, and familiarity with the topic will help with directly writing to the target audience. For instance, using active verbs and positive messages ensures engagement and clarity. Overall, effective “Plain English Writing” ensures clarity and engagement with the audience. Make sure the writing is always tailored towards the audience and use language that resonates with them. As well as organizing the information so the reader can effortlessly navigate the content. The third objective would be to write for action, this is so the reader takes the necessary steps to drive purpose and effectiveness within our communication. Keeping the text concise and to the point will also respect the reader’s time and attention and will keep them from bouncing from your content overall. The last objective would be to design the content to be visually appealing and accessible; this will further enhance the communication experience. By adhering to these principles, you can create content that follows the plain English writing technique.

Plain English writing differentiates itself from other writing styles through its unique characteristics and approach to content communication. At the core, plain English writing is heavily based on clarity and simplicity; plain English is the effort to simplify complex language, technical terms, and convoluted sentence structure in favour of straightforward and easily digestible language. This is to try to make our message and goal as easily accessible as we can to a broad audience. It’s to explain a subject in a universal way that a person could follow without having a high level of expertise or familiarity with it. Plain English writing is deeply connected with the audience-centricity. As the creator of the content, we need to understand the audience’s background so that the content will suit a broad audience that might not have our complex knowledge. This doesn’t mean dumbing down the content, though. It just means the writing needs to resonate with the reader effectively and communicate the intended message we want to create. An aspect of plain English writing is the action-orientated approach. Through providing clear instructions and CTAs, plain writing encourages readers to take tangible steps, for example, having to fill out a voting card for an election; that is the broadest audience there is, and you need to create instructions that everyone will understand that being brand new voters and people who have been voting for their whole life. The way to do this is through images and actionable communication. This is what sets plain English apart from the other styles of writing that may lack clear directives or fail to engage readers as if it is too complicated to understand. Plain English values efficiency and accessibility. The whole point is to convey information as best as possible without going overboard and using unnecessary details. This makes it easier for readers to absorb critical information easier. Going back to the voter example, if the instructions were unclear, people would take longer to fill out ballots, and it would hold up everyone’s day. Plain English writing allows for things to run smoothly. Plain English is one of the most engaging approaches to written communication, it brings in a wide range of audiences and contexts.

Plain language writing for the web is critical because people are busy. There is so much content and information at readers’ fingertips that people spend less than 15 seconds deciding whether to engage with the content. This spells disaster if people need to think about what your content is trying to say. People will bounce from your site and invest their time with another one. With plain language writing for the web, your ROI will decrease, and you will lose money if you don’t use it. It is an instrumental writing style that shows results. It will improve your website’s conversion rates, lower your webpage bounce rates, and improve the time on the page. Plain English isn’t about dumbing the content down, though. It’s just about avoiding language that trips people up and will, in turn, dilute the message you are trying to get across. Writing using the inverted pyramid method will help you succeed in writing in plain language. This means making sure the most important details are the first thing the user sees; this helps with users skimming over your content and will still get your message across while allowing the user to digest the content accessible and quickly. Space on a webpage is limited. This means being clear and concise is vital on the web so you can pack a punch and deliver exciting content that a broad audience can consume. Short sentences and simple grammatical structures will accomplish this and be much easier to follow than winding sentences. After creating clarity in your writing, you can add your brand’s voice and personality to the content. Overall, plain language writing for the web is essential because it enhances comprehension, user experience, inclusivity, and credibility. By prioritizing clarity and simplicity in your online content, we can effectively communicate our message to a wide audience and create a positive user experience that will reduce bounce rates, increase time on the website and have higher conversion rates.
